Impact

If successful, the project will allow all manufacturers of EuP to add energy management functionality (and maybe additional features such as remote control, etc.) for very little additional cost, and thereby address a new and huge market in homes and offices. Especially the market of electric lighting is expected to be penetrated first for the following reasons:

  • The energy management for lighting devices is simple, but effective.
  • Electric lighting systems are controlled remotely already today in larger entities, and there is a trend towards doing this also in smaller sites, merging convenience and ecology.
  • TA is world market leader in electric lighting and part of the consortium.

The study "Energiesysteme der Zukunft" (future energy systems) of TUV/ICT, estimated savings of 7% of the energy cost by demand side management in households HVAC and refrigerators, based on prices on energy spot markets (2005). However, the study did not consider potentially “added value” by considering the fact that surplus energy can be sold (in non-regulated systems) at a higher price, and reduction of energy consumption (10%-30% possible according to ennovatis data) so that the savings can be expected to be even higher. In total, energy (cost) savings between 10 and 35% seem to be realistic following these argumentations.
